‍Unlock Aid was created to help change the way foreign aid works. Too much money and decision-making power sits with institutions far removed from the people the system was meant to serve. This problem still exists, and in many ways worse than ever.

Unlock Aid closed in September 2026. We made that decision because organizations are tools. They exist for a purpose, and they should be willing to ask whether they are still the right tool for the job. Unlock Aid was never meant to exist simply for the sake of continuing to exist.

The organization has ended, but our work is still here.

Much of what Unlock Aid produced came from the people and organizations who trusted us to hold and share their experiences, ideas and frustrations. We tried to listen carefully, document what we heard, and turn it into something useful. This site and our Substack will remain online as an archive for anyone who wants to learn from and build on that work.

We are grateful to everyone who contributed to Unlock Aid and especially to the community whose experiences and ideas shaped the work from the beginning.
